Girly Living Room

Looking for a fun look just for the girls?  This pink and green living room would be perfect for a single gal or female roommates.  So cute for college!  I was feeling girly today, so I immediately started looking for inspiration in the "pink" family and came across this perfect accent chair from La-Z-Boy. The colors are cute and simple and the print is fun and girly, but not overwhelmingly so, like a floral might be.  From there I searched for the perfect rug.  First I chose a striped rug with dark pink stripes, but once I decided on pink for the wall color (Sherwin Williams: Hopeful) I knew I needed to explore green for the rug to tie it all together.  The couch is simple; simple color, simple lines, simple look, but I added a cute Ikat print pillow as a nod back to the chair.  Take note that the pillow is the third print added to the room.  Don't be afraid to put different prints together, as long as they are different enough from each other.  I always try to keep one classic, like a stripe or chevron, with only one or two colors, then the other print (or two) can be more fun and colorful without having to worry about clashing.  The accessories are all fun and girly...  Shell mirrors in a group of three (groups of 3 always work!) add sparkle and a bit of elegance, a furry beanbag is adds texture and comfort, the capiz lamp is unexpected and adds sparkle, and the canvas print has words of wisdom in the perfect style and colors.  Add it all together and it is an adorable, classy, young room that any girl could relax in and fall in love with.

Racks and Holders with Multiple Uses

Today it is all about multiple uses for objects, especially ones you might already have on hand.  I cannot claim all of the ideas as my own, but am excited to share others' genius thoughts with you!  Check below for links to original posts.  Fist of all--wine racks.  We all buy these when we are young and childless to create a cool wine storage space.  I actually have 4 of the stackable racks featured bottom left that I got from Pier 1 Imports.  Guess how many bottles of wine I have on them in all...3.  Obviously I could be putting them to better use!  This genius has put large glasses in each dip to fill with markers, pens, pencils, or whatever!  So smart.  A wall mounted towel rack would be so adorable hanging in a bathroom (especially a guest bath) with towels on display.  Bottom right I have featured a towel rack with multiple bars for hanging.  I love it for the purpose it is meant for, but I envision it in my living room, bedroom, or nursery with blankets/quilts hanging on display.  I have so many beautiful handmade quilts and nice blankets that just sit on a shelf or in a closet; it would be cool to be able to show them off without taking up too much space.  Last but not least, this home-made rolodex of sorts is made using a paper towel holder!  How smart!  This genius has created it for scrapbook sticker storage, but I would love to try it for a recipe book!

Can you think of more creative uses for these items?  Tell me what you think!

Beachy Nursery

I have a baby boy on the way and have considered many nursery ideas, this being one of them.  My husband is in the Coast Guard, so there is no question that we will always live near the coast...I thought this would be perfect!  I chose an aged white color for the crib and would stick to the blues for bedding.  The shell mirror and blue lamp add a bit of grown-up elegance to the space while the turtle stool,  bookends, and hanging fish give more of a playful vibe.  I found the adorable beach inspired artwork on Pinterest and have given you the link to the corresponding Etsy page to make a purchase.  This could also be a fun DIY with scrapbook paper for the backing and a stamp or stencil for the print.  One of the smartest things about this nursery is the indoor/outdoor striped rug.  The pattern and color are classic and easily fit into the room, AND you can simply rinse it off- perfect for a nursery where the conversation: "What's that stain on the rug?", "Who knows!" is heard often!  The canvas baskets are a must-have...after all, you can never have too much storage!  The point to remember here is that you don't have to only shop at baby/children's stores for your nursery- you are allowed to put grown-up things in there too!

Do you have one of these items and love it?  Or maybe you have another great idea for a beach-inspired nursery?? Leave me your thoughts below!

Office Saved by Cute Desk Chairs

Listen up ladies!  Your desk chair does NOT have to be ugly and boring!  I keep telling my husband that while his desk chair from middle school is comfortable and functional it is definitely not cute. (Not to mention how nasty it probably is by now...eek!)  Above are examples of adorable options that can be your desk's mate.  Hopefully one of them will be keeping my desk company soon!  The two upholstered chairs with swivel bottoms are both from Ballard Designs and can be customized with any fabric- yes, any! You can even send in your own fabric if you don't see an option you like.  How cool is that?  The other two chairs I've featured are not desk chairs.  Crazy, huh?  Be creative! Use a beautiful dining chair or a side accent chair.  As long as it works for you, who cares if it came from "office furniture"?

What are your thoughts?  Do you have a great idea for a desk chair?  Share below!

Easy to Update Bedroom

I love this bedroom! I have always wanted a canopy bed like this one from Pottery Barn.  I keep my bedding all white or natural so that I can change out accessories like decorative pillows, throws, and paint colors to keep things interesting without buying all new bedding everytime I want to update.  When designing this room I stuck to that mindset and started with the bed, mirror, white bedding, curtains and lanterns.  I found this adorable accent pillow at Target and it was my inpiration for the mustard tufted bench, red throw and beautiful Ebbtide Blue paintcolor by Sherwin Williams.  What do you think? Be the first to leave me a comment about this room!

Introduction

As a military wife, my husband and I have moved twice in the past three years and know that we will move twice more in the next three years.  Each time creates exciting challenges as I unpack and set up our furniture and accessories in new (sometimes oddly sized or shaped) spaces.  This means coming up with out-of-the-box solutions and inexpensive ways to make our home comfortable, classy, and fresh.  I love to explore websites, catalogs, and stores to compile room collections; since I unfortunately do not have 50 rooms to constantly redesign I want to share my ideas for you to use!

Check back often for great tips!

Do you have a design dilemma?  Are you "craven inspiration" for a specific room or space?  Write a comment about it and I will help you trouble-shoot in an upcoming post!
